In the Beginning...

...I already started procrastinating. Instead of moving into week one in my book, I have made a new background for my computer. I did this so that the moment I sit down at my computer and log in the first thing I see is my BIAM contract. It's beautiful, my husband is a magnificent artist. I also, have responded to everyone on the group page, checked my email and my facebook entirely too many times, not sure what I am expecting to find different....but anyhow, check out my new background and my contract, it's awesome! Thank You Hunny! Now...for week 1.

  1. Good luck with your writing and stop procrastinating! I added you to my blogroll.

  2. Awesome! Thank you, I just now finished day one's exercises and posted them. Now to settle in to write my 2500 words for the day. I am trying to figure out how to follow you. I am still pretty lost on the social aspects of this.

  3. You can just follow me on Twitter. I haven't figured out how to set up my blog so that people can get an email when I post.

2500 words a day is really ambitious! I wish you good luck. I try to do about 1000 at day. I usually do more than that, but 1000 works for me.

  4. Get up and move away from the computer! If it continues to distract you, grab your notebook, your BIAM binder and head for Starbucks to do some writing freehand for awhile.

Have a routine when you write: turn on music, do a warm-up exercise, plan to research or pre-write for an hour, then get into writing. Structure your writing time. I'm a horrible procrastinator, but when I structure my time, I tend to stay on track.

  5. Fred, very cool...I don't tweet much, but I lurk in tweetville quite a bit. Also, I just completed Nano in November and I was averaging between 1600 and 1700 per day. Taking a break but I have just over, 800 words right now. At this rate, I can reach 2500 by midnight...I think lol.
Lee Ann, very good idea! Although I am a total geek, I still thoroughly enjoy the feel of a good pen gliding across a sheet of paper. I think I am going to use the daily exercises as a warmup as you suggested and ban myself from all webpages until I have met my goal for the day. That way I can check all my web groups and my blog and then settle into work on it. I figure if I set a start time with an alarm it will be much easier, my phone allows me to set a daily alarm. I believe I will make use of it.

  6. It seems to me that you are like a lot of us, that you try to be in too many places at once, trying to do too many things at once and then stressing. I myself spent far too much time on twitter and lingering at other sites trying to connect with my peers. This isn't a bad thing unless it gets in the way of the work. What I did was limit myself on these sites. Like I would check in on each site everyday at noon and that was it until the next day. This way I trained myself not to "hang out." Because this is a large consumer of time. Good luck I have no doubt you will conquer this.
